My chief isnt to happy with our Bristol bunker gear we purchased last year. One guy ripped his gear during extrication practiceand one guy has ripped the crotch out of his twice. Plus we have spots fraying and reflective trim starting to seperate from the cloth. I think we are going to go back to Globe.

Try and go morning pride it works out to be cheaper per set and it can be customized to department and personnel better than any other company out there, my opinion of course.  Definitely do the research first but its been amazing bunker gear for me.  And the most important thing like I said already it works out to be cheaper (atleast in this area).  An old dept I was with was paying close to I think 1700 per set of glode (customized) if you want to call it that, and I paid 1200 for a new set of morning pride with a harness and the removable knee pads (like FDNY use to use: at that time it cost more not sure if it does now or not) and i was able to pick everything from A to Z on my gear

Hope this helps out a bit sorry to hear about the bristol I know alot of guys who enjoy it because of the lightness and its comfort-ability.

Stay Safe

Morning Pride is cheaper per set. Most sets come with vented knee pads that are removable and replaceable as they wear. If you get the black color, it turns red if and/or when the fabric becomes compromised and needs to be taken out of service. I had 2 sets of Morning pride, then we got a "discount" on Globe gear. When all was said and done we could have bought 10 extra sets of Morning Pride with customizations that we couldn't get with Globe. The next fiscal year we put our Globe as a reserve set and bought Morning Pride. 40 firefighters, custom tailored, Buffalo, NY style for less money and a 3 month turn around time. Including a Stream light holder on the left, radio pocket and mic tab on the right. bellow pockets on both legs, snap and velcro knee pads (where we carried 20' of 1" webbing), never felt it, and a rope pocket in the back of the coat for emergency bail out rope. (8mm).

And Fire Dex and all the others... As very well said in Brooklyn....

Fugheddaboudit!

You get what you pay for. Cheaper isnt always the best route.

So true chief

I had a set of Bristol I used for almost 10 years before it was replaced.I never had any major issues with it.  My department went to Globe and frankly those of us that got it HATED it.  Compared to the Bristol it was almost like having 2 coats on it is so bulky.  The pants are great, very comfortable and I can move very well in them.  The next year when we ordered more gear we were right back to the Bristol and the guys that got it LOVE it.

As for the tears from extrication training, I don't care what brand of bunker gear your but if you snag it on a sharp edge of metal it will tear.  As for the crotches tearing out, it sounds to me like poorly fitted gear.  In the over 10 years my volly FD had Bristol we had no torn out crotches, and no more other types of tears than with any other type of gear.  What is the outer shell made of on your Bristol?  Ours was Nomex Delta-T, a Nomex/Kevlar blend.

By the way, as much as I like my set of Morning Pride bunker gear at my career FD it isn't armor, and it certainly isn't anymore tear resistant, or burn resistant than any other gear made of the same out shell.  My gear is just 5 years old and my FD spent $400 repairing tears, cuts, burn holes, and replacing a pocket.  We are not the FDNY by anyone's stretch of the imagination and yet my gear was pretty messed up.

Low price isn't a bad thing, or a good thing.  It is only one factor in purchasing something.  QUALITY is more important than price and spending a lot of money does not now, nor has it ever, guaranteed quality.  I am a firm believer in testing gear, getting sets to hand out and let guys try them for a few months.  Generally you can tell by then if it is anygood or not.
