Our helmets all have face shields, and I agree about them getting in the way, especially with an air pack and in a tight area. My chief is ordering me a pair of goggles and bourkes. They have no problem with me converting my helmet, as I intend to have my black hat for a long time ( I'm not leaving my dept. and I have no desire for a white hat).
Defender visor all the way, great eye protection without the bulk of a regular face shield. Plus they store up in the helmet when not in use so there is less heat and debris on them which will make them last longer......if you are concerned with the "traditional" look throw some bourkes on the helmet as well.
