whats the best firehouse meals u have had recently ??? and how many chili cook offs is there really going on ?????

The drive-in down the street has the best double-cheeseburger in the county. Thick and greasy! Real cheddar....damn...wonder what's going on at the station...

We had a truck drop off a frozen 20 plus package of some frozen meat. We thought it was ribs. I went and got bottles of Speed Queen sauce.... (best rib place in Milwaukee). After it thawed, we slowly cooked it over a barbeque flame, turning it and applying sauce every 15 minutes. It turned out to be a Standing rib roast and we had been applying barbeque sauce to prime rib. It was really good. Joe Bonnanos has a book out called Firehouse Cooking. It's on his web site. My favorite so far would be the fajitas and enchilladas the captain made the fajitas and i made the enchilladas we had homemade chips salsa the works awesome meal!!!

First monday night in Nov is our annual fundraiser/dance ticket sales and we go door to door(in town only). My grandpa and his best friend(who died a few years ago) for over 30 years did chili and oyster stew for supper upon our return to the station. 60 guys and they can't even began to come close to finish the chili he makes, lots go home in containers and no one is left hungry. Last year was the first year grandpa didn't cook but armed with his/grandma's notes I did the chili and although it had a little different kick than his did everyone ate up and left full. That is the best compliment a chef can get.
Usually for our annual meeting one of our members, who is a lifelong cook, always does a primerib or BBQ ribs, etc. All are amazing as well. Each and every meeting night(1st monday night of each month) we cook and my wife is still amazed at the wondreful food we men get at the fire house...that and we have every womans dream kitchen.

We had a little storm come in on the Gulf Coast last year, Ike. We stayed at the station, along with the City Emergency Crew. I was on cook crew for the duration. Ten days cooking for up to 200 people. There was no power in town, but we had our generator. Sure was glad when the power came back on and could go home to my bed and start cleaning out the refrigator and freezer.
I don't look foward to cooking at the station.

A guy brought in a trailer drawn smoker and wraped chucker up in tinfoil with several home grown veggies butter and spices and smoked'em for half a day....mmmmmmmm
'
Also did the same with some rabbitt, dont think I had ever eaten that good at the station again.
Chucker is a type of bird almost like pheasent but smaller

Pizza made in the firehouse by Tony at Station 59-Sunrise. Fresh! Had to be the best pizza I ever had.

I made ham pot pie more like a stew then anything else no complaints about it. We don't really do shift dinners because people I work with don't understand the words whoever doesn't help cook cleans I was in the kitchen at 10 pm that night cleaning up everything
