I'm seeing an ad here about a book called "FIRE STORM". It's a book about what happened here in Victoria Australia last year, Feb 2009. Perhaps it's only showing because I'm Australian, I don't know, but it shows a comment from a member of FDNY so who knows.
If you see a copy, have a look. It shows the nasty side of our job, the heartache caused by loss of property, loss of friends. Have a look.
I haven't been through my copy yet, that period still hurts too much and I'm not the only firefighter here that feels that way.
The book mentions 'heroes'. Of course it does, but that's a word I dislike intensely, I'm not a hero, I'm a firefighter. I do my best.

Thanks for saying hello Brian. The book has a lot to look at, to digest. One town was totally destroyed with many deaths. Other townships were badly damaged with fatalities - one of which is too many, they had many more than one. In two of those townships, six people I new died - one of whom had been a volunteer Ff with me some years ago.
Homes and other buildings are being rebuilt. People are moving back towards normality. Hopefully they can attain near-normal.
Can people who are severely affected by a disaster fully recover? We can only hope. This refers to people anywhere in the world who have suffered, not just those in the book.
