Working in a four story condo complex. Since this building is on the shores of the Pacific it has been 'converted" to mostly short and long term rentals.

Tenant calls the owner saying his smoke detector is going off. Owner figures the batteries are dead and tells the tenant to just pull the batteries out of the detector. Their is a slight communication problem between the tenant and the owner. Eventually the owner tells the tenant to just break off the cover of the detector.

You can probably see where this is going. The sprinkler head is adjacent to the detector and this is what the tenant broke off. Fourth floor condo now has flowing sprinkler head. So far 12 units have sustained water damage. All because the owner didn't change out his battery.

You can educate ignorance but you can't fix...

and you know where that went. Ouch!

Yep!

I am hearing that some smoke detectors will be coming out with a battery sealed into it and will last up to ten years. The State of Maryland just enacted a law for the change for smoke detectors to be replace with the new style in the next few years.
