We are having major problems with our pagers! We currently have Motorola Minitor 4. We have had them for a couple of years and they are just not doing a good job. Most of the speakers go out or get real soft, to the point you cant hear the tones go off. Alot of the times it will erase the call, instead of saving it. They just anit doing the job and we are having to spend hundreds of dollars getting them repaired! Our neighboring dept has the Minitor 5. And they haven't gave me any good reviews on those either. Any other pagers that anyone has, that you recommend!? Links? THANKS
well my department has Motorola Minitor 5's along with a few 4's... we dont like the 4's what so ever... but the 5's are great... you can have multiple tones held in it... and they work great for us... we have had the 5's for id say around 3 years now... with no problems...
well crap i was hopeing for a better respone to this.......I am looking for more than just Motorola minitors....There has to be another kind of Pager our there! I know they are coming out with more and more Radio/Pagers but there is just a few people on the department that just dont need a radio, because they will "abuse" it.
We use Motorola Minitor M'3, 4,and 5's throughout out Department with pretty good success. We have occasional issues with them, much of which falls back on proper programming. Like everything else, things do occasionally break and we send them back to Motorola,,,generally with a fast turnaround of a week or so. Our County also has spent lots of money upgrading its dispatch system, towers and repeater systems. Dispatcher training is also a big part of pagers "working" correctly.
Good Luck!
We have minitor 3,4 and 5's and have not had aproblem with any of them. I have a minitor four and been using it for around five years and the only problem i had with it is a broken case. I was getting into my truck and my page caught on the seat and cracked the case and that is the only problem I had.
you could looking to get a alpha numeric system my ems corp has this and works great. also we all have personal radio's to carry with us . might be some that you could do with a grant.
We have been trying out the new Apollo's, and they definetly out perform any motorola we ever had. Of course thats not saying much, but they have worked excellent for us. Not sure of the exact model#, but our guys that have them are extremly satisfied. We live in a very rural area, were reception is a problem, never had a problem with it yet. We are definetly dropping motorola pagers, for Apollo's. We do like motorola's radio's however, just not the pagers.
Okay we had Nebraska State Fire School this passed weekend and I came across the "Apollo." I did some talking with the vendor. He seemed pretty confindent with the Apollo. There was a couple of different chooses. He had a really small one, and a larger one which compared to the minitor 5. Do you have the small one or the larger one? THANKS
I have used all five versions of the Minitor, from the original right on up to the 5. I have also repaired all types over the past 12 years and here's how I would rank them (best to worst):
We bought 30 of the 4s in 2005 and by now they all have gone back to M for warranty repair. We have a few 5s that are working OK, I like them much better than the 3/4. We haven't had problems with the 3s other than a broken knob or battery door.
Bull, the Apollo VP200 and the Minitor 5 are identical pagers. Some may be surprised by this, but "M" hasn't designed a fire pager since the Minitor 2 in the 1980s. Every model since then has been designed and built by offshore companies.
I suspect that that's the reason the newer ones particularly the 4s are so crappy.
