I was just watching a historical video on firefighters on The History Channel and it got me to thinking that what America could really use is someone in the Fire Service in the White House to try to turn this country around. I doubt that when our fore-fathers created America's government that they wanted a government that keeps the poor poor and the rich get richer. I see how much money we send to foreign countries to feed the hungry when we have people out on the streets here in America hungry and homeless. When another country decides to attack America or wage war on America, we go over there and level their country, then send them billions of dollars to rebuild their country, while there are Americans here who have a hard time finding a job that barely pays the bills. We are making budget cuts in the fire service, military, and other emergency services, causing Americans to have to do the same job with less equipment and pay. We are sending all of our companies and jobs overseas because it is cheaper to make things in a foreign country then the price we have to pay for cars, gas, or anything from overseas is more than if it was made in the U.S.A. I believe that if we had a President with a background in the fire service, things wouldn't change over-night, but we would be taking a step in the right direction. It seems like most of our government members are more concerned with getting rich than taking care of Americans best interest. Think about it, a firefighter knows what it is like to see a family's tears after seeing their home and everything they owned lost in an instance. A firefighter knows what it is like to see friends and families grieve over a lost loved one that perished in a fire or accident. Firefighters risk everything on every call to make sure that another family doesn't have to feel that pain. I believe that if we had a firefighter in the white house, we would still have our problems, but at least we would have someone in the White House that knows what it is like to live from paycheck to paycheck sometimes. Our President would be someone with a selfless heart and a passion for helping people right here in our country. I know we have to keep up good foreign policies, but I don't think that it should come at the expense of the quality of life of Americans. Maybe there is an explanation for it, but I don't see the reason why we are making the rich richer and sending all of our jobs and money overseas with so many families right hear in America suffering. I am anxious to hear other's opinions on this.
As nice as it would be to have a firefighter in office, I don't forsee it happening anytime soon. Political parties only seem to follow partisan lines. It is disgusting to see the almost even split on no brainer issues. (watch the congressional hearings for Roger Clemens, perfect example)
Remember your local politicians are people who YOU elect into office. Talk to your politicians about the needs of the fire service. THEY are the ones who draft the legislature, not the president. The president only signs the bill or veto's the bill.
If you (and all your local departments) get the support of a politician, sign on board with them, and help get them elected. If they turn their back on you and the fire service as soon as they get into office, make it known, and make it your point to support a differing candidate the next election. Why put the same liars into office for another term?
