I have no experience with leather boots as I am just getting started in the fire service, so the gear I use, good, bad or somewhere in between is what Im issued. My questions to you, as someone considering leather structurals would be:

1. What are their advantages over the old standby rubber boots?
2. Do they have a pretty severe break-in period?
3. What is their temperature/safety threshold and how does it compare to rubber? That is do they handle a significantly higher fire/ambient temp before either becoming uncomfortable and or dangerous?

That being said, I know that once my cash flow improves, I will be upgrading just about every piece of my gear from dept issue to personally owned and I have had my eyes on a pair of the Thorogoods.
