I'm in EMT-B right now... I spend every extra minute studying. I go for the state test April 20. The class started in January. I love it though. I know that its what I wanna do

EMT-B school is like advanced first aid and oxygen therapy. It's not hard at all. My class took two months and I didn't have a problem with it at all. Others did, though. It just depends on how much you care. One fellow refused to study because he thought he knew everything, but ended up failing (which is good because he thought you used a HEPA mask for hepatitis A patients BECAUSE it is spelled HEP - A.) Others failed because they realized quickly they didn't care. The job isn't all too amazing like the TV shows make it out to be. If you do take the class, don't be too upset like other people are when their calls are mostly comprised of "granny needs a ride to dialysis" instead of "high impact MVC w/ ejections."
Good luck on the paramedic class, captain. I start mine in July and I'm already trying to study for it!
it is hard, but if u study u will do great.. just make sure u do study.... my class was from jan-may... i had and lot of fun and it was one of the best things i could have done
It can be a tough class but as long as you do the assignments and pay attention in class and labs, you should be okay. The class I was in was 1 quarter long and I made it through the first time but others have taken a couple of times to do it, thats why the need to work hard in the class.
Good Luck
ps its worth it to take and pass the rewards of helping others is phenominal.
My class started in December and is ending in another week, its honestly not really hard. If its what you wanna do than all you have to do is study and you'll do fine, AND find a good class with a good Instructor, otherwise it might not be very fun. My instructor taught us what we need to know, how to pass and how to be adaptive to the situations because the book won't teach you everything, its experience. I've heard from several other members in my department that they had a bad instructor who made them read every chapter of the book and take tests and it wasn't a pleasant educational experience lol.
I would not say its advance first aid, we provide Emergency Medical and Truma Care to first aid. Ive been in it for almost six years now, and found it pretty easy, but i did study.
i just paased nremt about 3 weeks ago the class wasnt hard just alot of book work... its a great course to have under your belt. fire school was easier for me tho.
EMT-B is a great class, i dont regret doing it, my class was 3 months... a lot of bookwork, but if you actually READ the book youll do fine... IL requires 24 hrs of ER time and ride-along is optional...but i recommend it, doing it in class and for real is totally different... and im sure, like most of us, youll like the TRAUMA section the most, but if your service is anything like mine, youll get more old ladys falling out of bed, and having trouble breathing than highway speed MVC with entrapment calls... but all in all i really do love it, no matter what the nature of the call is, im always there...
The EMT-B wasnt difficult at all. It took us 6 months plus the State and National Registry testing. Lots of fluff stuf you have to learn to simply pass the test. Much you will throw out with the wash in the real world.
