Halloween is coming... Does it impact your district?
Santa Barbara is a college town with the University of California being in our backyard. Over 30,000 partiers, many wearing masks and costumes number over 35,000 people on Halloween night. It's gotten so bad that this year they are going to set up a medical tent and bring the nurses and doctors to the community. Years past has actually shut down some of the hospitals because of excessive patient load issues.
Are we the only ones who have this type of EMS nightmare?

Will you be offering flu-shots with your outreach program as well?
We're a small community, so, eggs and toilet paper are the only threats on Halloween.
This year, the prize is campaign signs. Signs are being taken in record numbers. I had a four foot by four foot sign taken. We found it, but it took an effort. Hey; the sign and posts was worth thirty bucks. I have to save my money for those radio spots.
Maybe I should pass out campaign literature in lieu of candy.
How well would that go?

I guess I should also mention that we use our departments Paramedic firefighters to roam specific sectors where the majority of the partying occurs. They are in assigned teams that consist of two medics. We use our wildland gear because the nomex shirts are highly visible and the cargo pants can hold EMS supplies...

the culture around this event has gotten way out of control. kids come from all over the state and out of state as well. numbers run now over 50,000 kids partying throughout the weekend. one year their was a potential terroristic threat and several agencies, including local, state and federal resources joined forces to keep the kids safe. it overwhelms everyone, hence bringing the hospital to the event. and I do remember something about a ton of fires in Detroit over Haloween, still the case?

I guess after reading all of your posts, we are lucky during halloween. We live in a very small community and the largest church in town does a "trunk or treat" in the square where all the kids line up and trick or treat the back of their cars. This is where everyone goes, so we don't have many rogue trick or treaters. Then, our fire department is offering dinner and time to let the kids play on the fire trucks. Generally, we don't have any more problems on halloween than we would on any other given day.

This is my first year with this squad. From what i have heard the city paramedics run their butts off and we dont do that much but we are actually running two truck with 3 people on one and 2 on the other.
