When you think about the fire service in this country, what names come to mind and why?
Brannigan? Brunicini? Dunn? Salka? Lasky? Buckman? Grimwood? Goldfeder? Smith? Carter? Bruno? Leary?
If they were coming to a place near you, would you go see them?
What would compel you to make it a point to go and listen to a certain speaker? What topic would most interest you?
Is there someone at the local level that you feel will become nationally known?

You hold the key.
"Get then on the same page, and you have a couple hours to talk about, and review some of the key topics, before getting home. Instead of the 5 minute ride home, and now you are back to life and forgot everything you just spent the last 3-4 hours learning."
I should just about be able to solve the world's problems then in the thirty one hours that it will take me to fly back home from listening to these guys at FDIC! :)
Has anyone seen Frank Montagna at all. He wrote Responding to Routine Emergencies. Great book. We are looking to get him in the fall for a seminar.
Great Book, great guy, BORING SPEAKER!!!!!!!!!! Man that guy is boring I found it very hard to pay attention when he came to my FD witht he Responding to Routine Emergencies Seminar. Not a fact just an opinion
I really need no reason to go listen to any of them. They are brothers who truly eat and breath the fire sevice. Any opportunity to listen to anyone who is sincere about this job is worth listening to. I have to agree that if you are going to add someone, I would have to say Dave Dodson for the "Art of First Due and Reading Smoke" seminar. I think by far one of the most awsome classes, I have taken. The list would be endless. As for Billy Goldfeder......That is one, in your face, here is how it is kinda guy. As for the local scene, nobody really stands out and smacks me in the face. But Billy worked for a department here in Manatee County many, many years ago.

I have come to realize that there are so many on here that are worthy of national travel and seminars. What a great question though.
or say.....you could just invite all of us out to see those beautiful beaches you were telling me about....and the sharks, and the spiders, and the snakes, and the crocodiles....
Yeh... well... you know... it's a tough job but someone has to do it... :)

It had better be damn good weather at FDIC or I'm gonna freeze to death! :(

Gotta find those photos of the beach to post here...
nice.....it's 32 degrees here and freezing rain....go ahead....post those photos
The big problem is the cost - airfares alone are $3500 for me, and it's going to take me nearly three days to get there. Karratha - Perth - Sydney - Los Angeles - Indianapolis. On the way home there is a stop somewhere between Indy and L.A. just to add to the excitement. At least this time I won't end up doing Cinncinati Airport to Indianapolis in a taxi like I did last time.
I would do - but I'm off to the beach - last chance I will get for a swim before I fly out to start my new job... I will post the photos when I get back a little later.

It's 32 degrees here too - celcius that is :)
Chief Lasky is coming to our Fire House next month Dec 13th. Sign up sheet at our website www.oxfordfire.com
We are about na hour south of Philadelphia,Pa and an hour north of Baltimore, Md in case anyone is interested.
