personally i like black fire trucks. And No lie the black trucks are actually safer at night time fire calls because they're actually easier to see
I dont really care what color the truck is. All I care about that it is equipped and it pumps water. Every department has its color preference, so what ever it is, its your color until someone changes it.

I saw this in Henrico County VA..I had to get a pictuer, every truck in their dept is slime lime

RED is the only way to go....
The reason for red fire trucks set aside from tradition, is red for the blood of our elder fire fighters that have fought or fallen before us.... never forget those who have led the way and helped push our departments to higher goals and training so that everybody can go home at the end of the day
Is there any other color then "Fire Engine Red" Hummm why is it called that? Must be something to that saying.
I agree, all but 2 of our fire trucks are red. We have to white brush trucks we just built, but have red lights and 3 inch red reflective striping down the sides

Our Mini Pumper on a fast moving brush fire that threatened 200+ houses, only 2 were lost

Well it depends who you ask. Go to a school and ask preschoolers-2nd grade and see what they tell you. The answer will almost always be red. My dept for 30 years has used lime green and now with the purchase of our new 114 foot platform and new tanker went with red, much to the shock and shagrin of us, who have been trying to lobby for a new color for years.

Incidentally the very first promenent colors for fire vehicles way back were blue or green with yellow trim work. mainly because they were easy and cheap to produce. The red we associate today with fire trucks was a very labor intensive and expensive color to produce when it first came out.
Our chief worked for FMC in thier fire truck division, while he was there they did a study of what color was the most visible. the answer was lime green, well thats fine but, red trucks are a tradition in the fire service. All of our trucks are red, but I like multiple colors such as black and red with gold accents or red, white and blue. If I had my way the trucks would be red, white and blue with a fire scene on each side.

Be Safe!
