has any one else had a problem with the batteries on the scott air paks going dead real fast. i can see the ones that are used alot going dead fast but over the last year we have not seen a lot of fires and the batteries are dying roughly every three to for weeks.the paks air 2.2's with the built in pass and heads up display.

That sounds like there is a problem with your electronics and you should have your Scott Service Tech take a look at them. We have the Scott AP50 4.5 45min SCBA's and have no problems with the battery life on the PASS or the HUD. We change our batteries every 6 months( Jan and June).

Sounds like a warrantee issue, if your local supplier gives you grief, go right to SCOTT. 3 weeks is definately not good
We've used the Scott 4.5s for about 4 yrs. now & I've had to have our SCBA guys replace batteries twice in that time frame. And the batteries were not in the same air pack. So it sounds like a definate tech. problem.
We have the same problem. We had a Scott Tech come and reprogram our units and they got a little better but they still don't last very long. It seams that they go dead when we have a call and need them. Our SOP is to exit as soon as they go dead but this makes an initial attack pretty diffucult at times.
We tried using rechargable batteries and this made things even worse. I found out that this could void the warranty. I am not sure there is a good answer.
they were dying so fast the i went and bought enough batteries to replace every harness we have on the truck twice over so if they go dead at a fire we can change them real quick i am going to call the rep on monday and get them back out here to look at them.
It took about 2 months of complaining before we got our tech.
This is just a suggestion... Our tech guy says to use nothing but duracell batteries, we were using energizers for a while and it seemed they were going dead twice as fast. We swapped to duracell and we dont have the battery problems we've been having. (I figured all 9v's would last just as long... appearantly not)
If your local representative gives you grief and can't find the problem perhaps buying some additional non linked to the pack pass devices would help. The old packs were never built in and didnt seem to screw up as often
That may be true, but that has to deal with how the packs and pass combo were tested. This is strictly for the intrinsic safety testing. They couldn't test every battery combination. We use duracell procells and rarely have to change them. The only problem we have is bottle leakage. We just leave the bypass cracked so that the pressure does not build and activate the pass in the trucks. This is an acceptable leakage per the gas associations. You will never see a drop on the guages, but if the bypass is closed eventually you will activate the pass while nobody is around.
About 3 years ago we had gotten a grant to outfit every apparatus in the station and officers with the new NXG2 Scott Air Packs. Truth be told...the batteries get eaten as fast as the lobsters do at our picnic. We have had the techs look at the packs to no avail until about a year ago. Turns out that Scott recieved a big shipment of chip boards for the electrical systems on the new NXG2's and the boards were crap. We have now finally gotten a straight answer about 2 years later to the cost of the department. The biggest problem is not seeing how much air you have in the heads up display as we have done quite fine for years with the guage. But the issue is your pass not working. It has become such an issue that members now carry a spare pass in their bunker pants. Scott never even placed a recall out for the packs. We now carry batteries on the trucks for a quick fix on scene in case we have a malfunction. Members also go through the trucks weekly to seek out any dead packs so we don't find them on scene when they are needed.
Typical, they realize they would lose their shirts on a recall, kind of like the high pressure hose malfunctions they had a year ago. Typical. They are great packs, but again they are subject to error and failure. Apparently they sacrifice price for quality
i do a weekly check on the packs and it's about every 2 to 3 weeks on the batteries even with the duracells.
