We call it our "Water Accuracy Competition"...Just an OSHA accepted term.We have 2 man teams with 1 3/4" line at 125psi or 4 man teams with 2 1/2" @ 100psi.
We are trying to get an annual competition going with other companies in our county.
It consists of a steel cable connected between two phone poles(on our property).A tetherball is hung 2 feet by a chain and a beener, with 2 cable clamps as stops.
Our rules are not set in stone but we start with each team 25' from the ball, once the horn sounds, you can advance as far as you need to win. Some competition dont allow advancement but where's the fun in that?
same with us bob but we have competions up here when we have on this spring or summer i will email u and tell u and u guys can plan a weekend and come up here and play but here u can have no less than 3 no more than 5 firefighters on the line. where are u from bob
Loch Sheldrake,NY
We call it Waterball. It has been played the way we do it at least since the 1960's. I'm not sure how much earlier than that. Our version has been played in Indiana, Ohio, Michigan (where I am) and also departments from Canada. There used to be lots of "inviational" meets on weekends. in addition to state championships and even an "international" champion crowned from the three states and the Canada departments. It has died down as people are much more busy these days, but is still played quite often during the warm months. I can explain the differences in the rules if anyone would like to know.
sure jeff see if there are any differences in the 2 states. when we have our tourny here would u guys like to come down for the weekend
We call it battle of the barrel , There is a empty 16 gal. keg attached to the cable. Two man teams with 2 or 3 guys dragging hose for you . Get the barrel to the other side you win best out of three matches moves on the other goes to the losers bracket.
waterball...but obviously you know that bicey...um...it a really fun game...im suprised other states do it though it seems like a regional thing i guess....there is pain involved at times...idk that keg sounds a little to extreme for me considering ive seen the ball go flyin...or people go flyin...or both lol...
Our department has never played...is it necessary for the ball to be attached to something ?
Never played either but we have a simular game called battle of the barrel.

We hang an empty beer keg from a wire and two teams battle it out to see who can push the barrel to the other teams marker.
We have an informal one every year at our town picnic. We use an empty keg as well so we call it "The Kegawar". We use two 1-1/2 lines with 2 to 5 person teams and the public is invited to participate so depending on who and how many are on the line we may run it anywhere from 40 psi (for the kids) to 100 psi. We don't have stops we just paint the last 10 feet of the cable on each end white and call it the win zone. Hose advancement is allowed and first team to push the keg into the win zone wins. About the only rules we inforce are if you loose control of the nozle or hit the other team direct with the water stream you are disqualified. And we play more of a king of the mountian type game where two teams start out, the looser goes back into the crowd and the winner takes on the next challenger.
I am really wanting to get a ball for this ours was destroyed years ago does any havea clue where to get one? I found some rules that state it has to be 15" but if anyone can tell me where I could get something close I would appericiate it. I would go with a keg if I had to but was really wanting a ball. We have a compatation once a year at our convention.
we call it water wars we have a two or three man crew with 1 3/4 of hose psi is about 115 . we have two telphone pole with a wire and a old beer keg with a pulley on it and you go for about 2 min. every year at weaton village there are about 10 to 12 teams go at it .then at other event there are about 10 teams at it
