This is an excellent idea......and to have come from a teenager....just think!!!!!!!! An idea from the son of a 9/11 firefighter... So before you delete this, just remember that this is a 14 year-old boy who lost his father on September 11th. All you're asked t o do is type, point and click. Hello, I lost my Dad on September 11th; he was Chief Edward Geraghty, Battalion 9, New York City Fire Department. He lost his life with many other heroes that day, victims of the terrorists. Firefighters from all over have come to the aid and rescue of the tragedy in New York and Washington , D.C. Many firefighters lost their lives to save someone else's. The truth of the matter is, they do this every single day. They truly are heroes. I know many people feel helpless, especi ally those who li ve far from NYC and D.C. We all want to do something to show our appreciation, our support! I think we can... In honor of the bravery, courage and determination of American firefighters, there should be a day in our nation to celebrate and appreciate their hard-work and never-ending passion for saving lives.. I think we should honor all those other heroes who still live today.
I'm starting a petition for a National Firefighters Day. Will you help make every September 11th 'National Firefighters Day'?

Maybe this is his way of dealing with the loss of his father and if doing this helps him deal with his grief then I will support his actions.
Do I believe we need a pat on the back no!
But I thought as a brother and sisterhood that not only do we take care of each other but our families to so if a day dedicated to those who lost their life on that day helps him and other family members then we should stand behind them.

I like it.....I am currently trying to coordinate a 10 year memorial for 9-11....One thing I would like to see (hear) every fire whistle/siren go off on the time of the disaster...I mean EVERY alarm....coast to coast....I am currently shooting for every one in New York State but I will persue country wide if I can....Lets remember the 343 that made the ultimate sacrifice that fateful day....Paul

I have to agree.
Even if your department is fortunate to have never suffered a LODD, try to attend this event just once. This weekend was set aside by Congress for the very purpose of this thread. The service to honor the fallen of 9/11, was an all day event.
I understand the sentiment of this thread, but there were many, many people who lost loved ones that day. Thats the reason the President proclaimed Sept. 11 as Patriots Day, to honor all who lost their lives, not just at the WTC.
