A couple of years ago I switched to a pair of 10" leather front zipper fire boots, and now my feet don't hurt nearly as badly as with the old rubber boots. I'll never go back to rubber. What do you wear?

I switched to leather boots about a year ago and what a differance they make. I don't think that I will ever change back either. Well worth the money if your going to be in the fire service for very long.
We switched our entire department (97 sets) of Thorogood Ulti-Met 14" Leathers with the built in metatarsel protection. We've only had 3 firefighters that either complained that their feet hurt or they cant wear them.
Wes,

I can tell you that the airboss boot is about the same fit we were getting out of our lacrosse (and some pro warringtons). But we had less ankle injuries and other boot issues since going with the airboss boot. They are as light and a scomfortable, but gives us better protection in all situations... and the brass likes them cuz they cost less.
im a junior in PA and when i fist joined i was issued leathers..i have never used rubber boots, ann dont plan on it...some of my friends use rubber boots, and all they do is complain about them...so ill stick with leather
I work in Denver and we have just started switching from our leather boots to the boss boot. I wasn't too eager to get away from my warrington pros. But gotta admit that the boss boots that we have now are much better. They're as light and comfy as the warringtons plus they give me much better protection. I guess you just gotta try em out to see for yourself.
Im a lucky fellow then, me and all of our firefighters are issued the leather boots,we have all black gear so the dept. went to black leather boots.Very comfortable!!!!!!!
Interesting read. We're issued with leather boots only : front lace/zip, steel toe, steel shank, chem resist sole. Most of us love them (I do know of one person who doesn't). In fact so many people were wearing their boots out through wearing them all the time that we now have them made with a bright pink stripe down the back - not many men will willingly be seen outside with that sort of decoration! The only problem I have with our boots is that it takes so long to wear them in and get them comfortable - all of an hour or so I think...
