LAS VEGAS - Officials say they expect to easily hit the 1,500 limit on applications for 15 city of Las Vegas firefighter jobs.

About 1,300 firefighter hopefuls lined up at City Hall Monday to apply for the jobs, which take 16 weeks of training at the county firefighter academy. The line of applicants snaked along the sidewalk outside the building well before offices opened at 8 a.m.

City spokeswoman Diana Paul says that in a typical year about 1,800 applications are received.

Applicants must be 18 years old, with a high school diploma and basic emergency medical technician certification. Accepted candidates will go on to written exams, interviews, physical ability tests and criminal and personal background checks.

The annual salary for a Las Vegas firefighter starts at $49,947.

I personally would opt for Clark County instead. The prospect of 200K a year, to me is more appealing.
