The Fire Rescue Game teaches children how fire fighters help people in a fire
Children take turns saving each other or their parents from a “burning building” as part of the Fire Rescue Game, Thursdays at 11 am in July and August, in the Fire Museum of Maryland. They perform the rescues in fire gear and with a play breathing apparatus to understand how fire fighters save people in an emergency. They also learn self-rescue and how to help firefighters find them. Children’s play-breathing apparatus developed from a gift from REI Lutherville-Timonium.
The Fire Museum offers a different children’s activity in July and August at 11 am, Wednesday – Friday, July and August. Wednesday is Children’s Crafts Day, Thursday is the Fire Rescue Game and Friday is Story Time.
In the Discovery Room, children can dress up in fire gear and climb on a 1938 Fire Engine!
The Fire Museum is the third largest fire museum in the world, featuring over 40 antique fire engines and a reconstructed 1870s Fire House on the main floor. Other exhibits include a history and video of the Great Baltimore Fire of 1904. The museum is filled with artifacts that depict the working lives of fire fighters from the early 1800s to the present.
Public hours are on Saturdays, 10 – 4 pm, and from June through August, Wednesday – Saturday, 10 – 4 pm. Admission is Adults $12, Seniors and Fire Fighters $10, and Children (2-18) $5.
