Event Description

Two days of great training for chaplains. We'll kick off on Monday with the National Fallen Firefighter Foundation's "Taking Care of Our Own" course to help you prepare for the worst: a line-of-duty death or serious injury. Developed by fire service personnel and families who have lost a firefighter, the class covers pre-incident planning, survivor notification, family and co-worker support, and benefits and resources available to families. You'll go home with specific ideas, practical information, real-world insights and valuable materials.

Then on Tuesday, we'll present "Acute Traumatic Stress Management" from the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress. You'll learn how to "jump start" an individual's coping and problem-solving abilities in the middle of a situation. You'll learn how to stabilize acute symptoms of traumatic stress and stimulate healthy, adaptive functioning. And you'll learn techniques for connecting with particularly challenging, emotionally distraught individuals.

Two days of top-notch training, materials, breakfasts, lunches, and snacks costs $125. Registration must be received no later than April 29.
