ok so in the last few weeks our junior firefighter hours have gone from being recorded on paper to being entered into the computer like a firefighters hours... i should have 60-70 hours of training but thanks to a person in my department we lost 15 separate trainings because he forgot to put the dang date on the papers.... so we dont have a date that the trainings were completed on and all we could do was throw them away... according to the fire commission i have 31 hours... I know i should have more than that and thanks to a paperwork error i barely made the requirement for hours of training this year, last year i was 20 short according to this.. so just great

From now on, make sure you get a copy of the traiing paperwork, adn make sure the date is on it BEFORE you leave for teh day/night. That way, if it comes up missing, not date, etc on the training officers side, YOU can show him/her what you did, the hours and the date it happenend!

AS A TRAINING OFFICER I UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF TRAINING HOURS AND RECORDS BETTER THAN MOST AT TIMES BUT NOT ALWAYS. I HAVE RUN INTO THIS SITUATION BEFORE AND THE ACTION TAKEN IS CORRECT IF THE PAPERWORK WAS NOT FILLED OUT CORRECTLY AND CANNOT BE VARIFIED THE TRAINING MAY AS WELL NOT HAVE HAPPENED AT ALL. PERSONALLY I KEEP A SEPERATE LOG OF ALL TRAINING THAT IS DONE AT MY STATIONS TO PREVENT THESE KINDS OF ISSUES. I ALSO PROOF THE TRAINING REPORT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AFTER THE TRAINING IS COMPLETED TO ENSURE IT IS COMPLETED CORRECTLY. AS FAR AS YOUR LOSS OF TRAINING HOURS GOES, I WILL WORK WITH ANY AND ALL OF MY FIREFIGHTERS TO ENSURE THEY HAVE ALL OF THE TRAINING THEY NEED OR WANT. I TRY TO GET ATLEAST A SMALL GROUP TOGETHER TO TRAIN BUT I HAVE PROVIDED 1 ON 1 TRAINING WHEN THE NEED ARRISES TO ACCOMIDATE SCHEDULES. I WOULD HOPE THAT THE TRAINING OFFICER IN YOUR DEPARTMENT WOULD DO THE SAME. I DONT KNOW HOW THE RECORD KEEPING YEAR GOES AT YOUR DEPARTMENT BUT IF IT IS NOT OVER YET YOU MAY BE ABLE TO SCHEDULE SOME ADDITIONAL TRAING TO HELP BOOS YOUR HOURS. AND IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY DONE SO YOU COULD TAKE THE NIMS 100, 200, 700, & 800 COURSES ONLINE AT THE FEMA WEBSITE. EACH COURSE CARRIES 3 HOURS OF TRAINING CREDIT FOR A TOTAL OF 12. I HOPE THIS HELPS YOU OUT IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS FEEL FREE TO ASK
