Lettering on Helmet Bands

I have been asked by my Logistics officer to come up with a new solution for putting names on helmets. My thought is to use helmet bands with lettering on them. Does anyone know of stickers, or paint that would stay on rubber, and would still be OK in a fire?

Aside from making helmet specific front shields for individuals, we use a piece of white reflective material -
( 3M tape) with black lettering across the back of the helmet just above the brim. This is for Metro 660's and measures about 3/4" h x 4"l.

Rubber expands and contracts so if you use a sticker it will fall off and if you use paint it will crack. I would try a marker of some sort.My dept has shields w our names on them.

If you use a traditional helmet personal sheild would be your best option if you use a metro style you could use letters. You can check out http://www.powercallsierns.com lot of custom options.

you can get small vynal letters for mailboxes and put on the back, We have traditional style helmets but we have a real high turnover for firefighters so our sheilds just have our department name and unit number on them.

We are in the process of issuing out traditional helmets. What we ran into is with the stickers we use for putting names on the back of helmets the large rear rib, makes it look funny.

I think that I found a solution. There is a company that makes Rubber Dye in spray cans. I talked to them directly, and they said that once it drys, it is as flexable as the rubber it is on, and it is nonflammable.

Ours have Unit numbers and they are a decal.

We use our call number as opposed to our names. They are affixed using vinyl numbers across the back of our metro helmets. We have three digit numbers so we use I believe them to be 2 inch stickers

With all due respect and out of my own ignorance, why do you need names on helmets?

The solution my department came up with was to put velcro tabs on the underside of the rear brim and to make up small name tags with velcro on them. It stays put and its protected from the elements and any other debris since its on the underside. If your looking for something thats visible while wearing the helmet you could always go with small adhesive letters to stick on the helmet, only downside to that is as the helmet gets dirty the name gets harder to read.

Its never a good idea to put anything on a helmet that doesn't comply with NFPA specs. If your Logistics officer is using a proper accountability system then the names on the helmets or jackets are irrelevant.
