MI. EMT STRUCK, PINNED ON THE HIGHWAY-LODD
Saturday, January 26, 2008

We regret to advise you that at approximately 6:10 a.m. this morning, Jackson Community Ambulance (Huron Valley EMS Partnership) Emergency Medical Technician Cheryl Kiefer was struck by a vehicle and fatally injured. She and another medic were on an ambulance returning to Jackson County when they observed an accident on eastbound I-94 at Kalmbach Road in Sylvan Township, Washtenaw County. They turned around and were assisting the accident victim when another car lost control and struck Kiefer. She was critically injured and trapped in the wreckage until extricated by the Chelsea Area Fire Authority. JCA and Huron Valley Ambulance paramedics transported her to the Trauma Center at the University of Michigan Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at aproximately 8:45 a.m. No one else was transported from either accident scene.

Ms. Kiefer was 23 years old and a resident of Brooklyn. She is survived by her parents and one sister. She had been working for JCA for just over a year and is a former firefighter with the Columbia Township Fire Department in Brooklyn. No further details are available at this time.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Cheryl and her family at this tragic time.

Jackson Community Ambulance is a partnership between Huron Valley Ambulance in Ann Arbor and Foote Health System in Jackson. JCA has provided ambulance service in Jackson County since 1996.

This is a sad event in any circumstance. This is why we have laws put into place to stop this from happening. People dont obey the laws and just expect to go sailing by, but when they dont and something like this happens then what? Does anyone else stop and say hey if they would have just moved over like they were suppose to this wouldnt have happen. Why cant people just accept the fact that they may have to slow down and move out of their lane of traffic for a minute to avoid this kind of event. So I hate to say I hope at least one other peson learned something from this event. We all need to practice vehicle placement and watch what other people are doing on the road. Be safe and return home
Let all of us keep her family in our thoughts and prayers tonight. May the good lord bless this family in there time of mourning.......Also let us pray for all those who put our lives on the line every day for complete strangers.... God Bless amen...

When are people going to get it when the lights are on you must yield.......
