Thanks for all the replies and help.I have gone to our association president and he is moving very quickly to put an end to this.I was worried about the "good old boy" syndrome but by the associations actions I no longer have that worry.
Take the issue to Personnel and possibly to the Mayor of the city. I would remain anonymous.
Iris isnt this a little harsh, what if a member becomes a diabetic and his B/S is low? He will act funnie and may even have an odor to them. So now you have terminated a FF that has a medical problem? ETOH I can understand, but no investigation at all? WOW...
In some states the first step in removal of a member is to talk to the Sec/Tres of a board of commissioners. This does not make him nor his department "Haphazard". This chief needs to be removed and if need be criminally charged by who ever has the jurisdiction to make the arrest for what ever charge is appropriate ie Public intoxication or Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence to the extreme of Wanton Endangerment. I would rather my department face the public as taking a positive approach to enforcing public safety than someone getting killed and then trying to explain to the public why you let it happen.
I know this is several months later, but... What ever happened to your drunk? I am sure the rest are curious as well.

Thanks

Wolfy
ur chief sounds like he dont care about what he does.
right on Sean, I'd see that he either finds a physician or AA soon!
I wuld think that if he is impaired, that would negate the fact that he is the Fire Chief, and just another intxicated civilian at the time.
Go to your executive board and file a complaint....friendship aside...he could get someone killed...Stay safe and keep the faith.....Good luck Brother...this is one serious problem that NEEDS to be addressed... Paul
The only real thing you can do is report it to higher
This is why there is a CHAIN OF COMMAND for instances like this. Start at the bottom and work your way up.
Go above his head!!! He has to anwser to either a board of commissioners or a mayor. They have the right to know and need to know since this is a BIG liability.
