Being a Safety Officer is one of those jobs only an idiot would take on; hmmm, guess that makes me an idiot.

You piss some people off because they don't like what you are telling them they have to do; even though you are trying to keep them safe by enacting and/or enforcing safety procedures and rules. Depending on your field, you have - at a minimum - OSHA and NSC standards; add to that, any specialized fields and state standards ...

SOPs must be changed and/or adapted over time in order to allow for changes of location; changes in staff and their physical needs; changes in federal and/or state standards or rules, etc. Keeping up with all of this while continuing all other duties, can - at times - be challenging. But, it must be done in order to ensure the safety of everyone in our departments.

Welcome to the world of being a Safety Officer.
