I thinks its the best job in the world. Being able to have a job you really love is an awesome feeling. I was fortunate when I got hired that I had some friends on WFD that made it a little easier once I passed the written and Physical Agility Test. I really think it depends on the department and how many people you have to compete against. Some departments are very competetive; having only a few openings and a lot of applicants. Doing well in the hiring process is key to getting a Chiefs interview. I'm a Captain on a Volley department so it has it's challenges. My biggest problems is keeping our roster numbers up, we have a lot of turnover and I constently have rookies that have to be trained. I think thats the best part of the job; being able to pass on expeirences that I've gained. Keep volunteering and gaining experience and get your FF 1&2 and your EMT license. It will help greatly in getting the paid job. Some departments don't have their own academies so they want people that have the training and experience to go with it. Good Luck!
