Hello. I'm new to this forum.
I am a volunteer Chief of a small department. I was wondering if any other volunteer departments have used an "employee review" model with their members. I am interested in setting something up.
I guess the main purpose of this would be to schedule some one-on-one time with each member (10, 15 min) to have a dialogue with them regarding their expectations and views of the department; maybe set some developmental goals and provide positive feedback to each member.
This is not to replace a relationship with the members during regular life, but sometimes I believe we need to prioritize these connections and if scheduling it will make it happen, then that's what I think we should do.
If anyone else has done this sort of thing I would love to hear what you did and how it came across. At times volunteers can be "touchy" and I want this to come across as wanting to spend time getting to know each one more, rather than just running the department regardless of their views and wants.
Thanks for any feedback.
