Why do you do what you do?

DM Mixson, Jr. – Several people have asked me lately, Doug, why do you volunteer as a Firefighter? I sat down and pondered that question and this is my response.

This video is dedicated to my Uncle, Fire Chief Gene Rushing of Hampton County Fire-Rescue SC. He spent his entire life helping other people.

many people ask me that as well I replied look in the mirror, look at your loved ones, look at your pets, and look at your friends! and ask yourself why become a firefighter?

being a firefighter is so much more than training! When you join a department whether its a volunteer or a paid one you instantly gain a large family. and yes it takes getting used to.

But when your "family" can depend on you to have their back and the public can depend on you your "family" grows ever bigger.

and theres always the good feeling that your "family" has got your back too.

it can be said that a fire department is a lot like the military when it comes to brotherhood and you can bank on that.
