Are EMTs certified to teach and certify citizens by American Red Cross standards?

Say a citizen wants to be certified in CPR-could they just come to the station or do they have to go to a red cross facility?

Are EMTs certified by the American Red Cross?

If you are an EMT do you have to get certified as an American Red Cross Instructor before you can certify citizens?

Are EMTs certified with the American Red Cross-CPR, first aid,etc..?

Thanks!!

By the way, the reason I am asking these questions is for my research report on Clara Barton and the establishment of the American EMS System.

I was wondering if my responses weren't welcome anymore. Thanks.
Norm, that will NEVER happen! You always have excellent input; insightful responses; and keep the tone even ... something much appreciated by most of us!
Charles,

Thanks, but i do actually have a good idea what research is about. I'm actually not all that bad at it either. To your point: I still stand by my earlier post, the OP's question was thoroughly answered in the first four or so responses. After that it was nothing more than reiteration, mostly because i suspect people just don't bother to read other's replies.

Let me point out that there are approximately 33,782 Fire Departments (NFPA estimate, 2004), so with regard to research, I'm wondering where you came up with 160,000.
[http://www.usfa.dhs.gov/downloads/pdf/statistics/fa-311.pdf Pg.13, about halfway down, if you want to verify my research (ablities)]

The question posited has nothing to do with varying fire department standards but rather whether a certified EMT can teach CPR, et. al.. All of the answers on the first page, and certainly within the first 4-5 answers, answered that OP's questions.

And again you are wrong, the 5 questions were answered in the first 4-5 replies. While what you say certainly sounds good (and warm and huggy) it comes off a bit pretentious, as though what was needed was your response(s) to fully round out the complete answer. I'm not saying you didn't answer the questions well, only that they had already been answered.

So I guess what you're saying is: If someone were to ask; what is the I.D. of a 1 3/4" hose, your line of thinking is that it would entail 15 or 20 people to respond with enough information to provide a proper and robust answer. I will assume then that, were the first person to answer it to say "the Inside diameter of a 1 3/4" hose is 1 3/4" because that is the way hose sizes are determined" would be an insufficient answer?

"Thats why we respond to these threads to share experience and information to help get us all at the same level." See now that is just condescending.

"I'm sorry but three or four responses are not enough to draw any conclusion from." Go back and read the firs 4 or 5 responses to the OP, you're going to tell me that the OP couldn't draw any conclusion from that? Now I think you're just being pompous.
Sorry Rachel, I am a FIREFIGHTER AND DRIVER Operator, wish I could help you, stay safe Duane
you would have to be certified to teach cpr throuh red cross to be a instructor
I never know what I will see from you next Jack!! Like I said-I am trying to write a research report on the American EMS System. The main question I needed answered was:
Can I say that EMTs are certified through the Red Cross?
Thanks for the added note!
Rachel, hope you were able to get all the answers you needed! Great responses to an excellent question. I learned a lot about regulations of other, non-contiguous states.
Thanks for all of the answers! I now have the material I need to finish my research report! Thanks again!!
