Well the weirdest thing ive ever found was at a structure fire in a vacant house it had been vacant for about 10 years and i found a really old prosthetic leg and i still have it sitting in the firehouse lol
We had a single-wide mobile home a few years back that had a bedroom stacked floor-to-ceiling with porno magazines and an outlet had shorted out behind the stacks starting a fire, by the time we arrived it had been banking up in those pages for a couple of hours and we had to dig out the fire. We tried to keep the paper from floating away, but there were pages on the ground all around the trailer!
Wasn't on a structure fire but we were on a hazmat call a couple years back at a storage facility. The person didn't pay their bill so the storage company was selling the items. As they were going through the stuff they found a box marked biohazard Anthrax. Everyone freaked out.
Full level b entry to open the box. The entry opens it and just starts laughing. The box was full of sex toys.
Called to a working fire. I was hydrant man for that shift. I bailed out and grabbed everything. I cracked the hydrant open and out came a superman action figure. Who would have thought that he was real.
I have had a dog get singed by being tied too close to a house, but never seen a burning animal come running out of one. I believe that would have been one of those " GOd I think I need to go to church" deals lol/
I think the funniest thing was we were toned out for a single vehicle roll over in a water filled ditch so everyone got the adreneline pumping and gotta get there quick and we are almost on scene and there was someone on the road flagging us down.It was a teenager that was in the car and there was another guy and a girl. The girl had a blanket on and under the blanket she had only her bra and underwear on.The accident was under investigation as to why the driver lost control and rolled it.I have come to my own conclusions!!!
We had a structure fire, and when I arrived on scene as a 3rd due company, there was an LZ set up about 50 feet from the fully involved structure. There was a burn patient that was being flown, and apparently the field across the road wasnt good enough for the IC, so they attempted to land in the yard of the fire. The pilot took it opon himself to land in a proper place.
Went to a condo unit for a smoke detector activation (called in by the neighbor in the adjoining unit) arrived to find a pretty good smoke condition; and a half naked old lady passed out on the couch from drinking to much in a back room; sound of seen the look on her face when she saw 3 firefighters standing in the doorway...needless to say her boiling pot of pasta was well done
We were called to a single vehical rollover last winter. Truck had hit a patch of black ice and rolled. During the cleanup, we were all saying how this dirtbike the guy had was cut in half, and mounted to a piece of plywood. We thought it was for some sort of display. Turns out the guy had cut a brand new Yamahaa YZ 450 in half, mounted it to the plywood, and mounted it in the box of his truck in a way that made it appear like a normal bike. It's what was under the bike that was interesting. The cops estimated 80 pounds of marijuana, for a street value of about 2 to 3 million dollars. Busted because he was speeding and hit some black ice. Turns out it was the new way for a certian gang to transport their "goods". What a way to be taken down. It was his accident that led to the discovery of the new transportation method.
Dispatched to a report of a Structure Fire, in a one story, single family dwelling, weather was warm, no wind conditions present, home was located on the end of a culdesac. On arrival, found nothing showing exterior on all four sides, smoke alarm sounding, but weak. Checked the door. It was warm, but not hot. Condensation on the windows, also warm, no smoke visible inside. We entered with caution, full PPE and a charged line, through the front door. The entire interior of the unit was blackened, heavy smoke damage, yet no smoke present, investigated further, located the seat of the fire in the kitchen, from the floor to the ceiling, all of the cabinets and anything that was hanging on the walls, were charred. The fire had ignited, burnt the entire kitchen area, smoked up the entire living area, including closets, then burnt itself out due to lack of Oxygen. There were melted light bulbs hanging from the sockets, they were elongated to about 5 inches, the smoke detector did function, though it had also melted the plastic around the alarm. The home owner advised they left for work at 6:00 a.m. and called us when arriving home at 3:00 p.m. All we could say was, they had done a great job of insulating the home, no air in, no smoke out.
