Our department recently decided to incorporate this award as a means to create some incentive and encourage current members to stay active. Each member will nominate a deserving FF and the votes will be reviewed by the Captains and Chief. The Chief then will make the ultimate decision. The award will be presented at the end of the year. With nominations due shortly, I seem to be struggling with who to vote for. Quite a few seem to deserve it. How do I make the call? Maybe you could help me out? What does FF of the Year mean to you?

I think I have to disagree with you there lutan 1. In my opinion, since our department has put this in place we've seen more dedication and involvement in the community. And since we have had more members out in the community we have also added 5 new recruits to our department. It seems to be a positive thing so far. And there are some members who work full time and spend time with their families who show dedication whenever they can. That's what being a volunteer is. And then there are those who work part time and yet never show up for training practices or community events. No one expects volunteers to be at the hall all the time otherwise we'd be career. It's HOW you work when you can. Do you show up because you HAVE to, or because you WANT to.
