Said it before...I'll say ity again...ust remember gang...whether we like it or not...operators who risk their lives...tend to engage in behaviors as people that may seem abhorent to those on the outside looking in.
Who is so base that they will criticize someone who makes these sacrifices for dealing with the stress the way they do? Firemen love beer, booze, and women. Well...NO KIDDING! Does it need to be advertised...NO! The shirt is tasteless...I do not agree with the concept...but as an American...wear it everyday and to church if you want to. All it does is help me discover sooner than later the type of person i am dealing with.
As a whole, I love all my brothers (and sisters...oops...anybody offended...wouldn't want that) but that does not mean that I appreciate them as people. We have to be able to separate ourselves in our thinking and depart from judging people collectively as firefighters and people simultaneously.
I fight fire with guys who I would not trust with a $5 loan, but in a fire i would trust them with my life. In the end, what matters most.
We have a zero tolerance for drugs and alcohol. Drugs are a no no mater what. As for the alcohol, it does not mean you can not have one at home or any thing like that it just means if you had any alcohol you do not respond....
As for you Jack, I can not believe we actually agree on something.... For your comment I think your link may not be accurate It has to be.... I used the B.A.C. calculator and it shows that no matter what type of beer you drink it is .02....
actualy i have that on my myspace and you can ask anyone at my station i have the most respect for fire. i have it because dick is my nickname and it is funny althought i don't have it with my fire dept. pics and i don't own the shirt nor would it be something i would wear on calls. there is a thin line between pro- and unpro you need to be able to seperate the two.
So...you think we should drink soda and chase men?!? Would that dispel a myth that is not a myth but the truth? Okay...so because it (beer and women) doesn't work for you,, you think we shouldn't enjoy them? Okay buddy!
Yeah...keep it up...attitudes like, "no wearing your department t-shirt at a side job (like mowing) preception is your department is in the lawn business, no going to food/drink establishments while wearing any department logo" is going to destroy volunteerism. Company shirts are a manifestation of recruitment and pride, if you can't handle that I have nothing else for you. Loosen up a bit because running rough shod over things like this with rule for this and a rule for that is ridiculous. Have some fun before its over. BTW...it's perception!
Mike,
As someone who lists his day job as an educator, I would just naturally assume your spelling would be spot on. But then again, maybe not. I don't correct everyone, just thought I'd point it out to you. Who would have thought you'd (attempt to) take my head off. Must be a jersey thing, like "the situation".
As to what I have to offer to this (or any other) discussion is best determined by reading what I've written. Jumping to patently incorrect conclusions can only lead to misunderstandings.
Hard to tell exactly who you're addressing.
I'd don't believe anyone said lawn care is disrespecting anything (except maybe weeds). Have you been following any of this?
