Hello All, I'm Firefighter Hicks and I would like to ask everyone what being a Fire/EMS Professional means to you. I will tell you what it means to me: It means getting up at all hours of the night to go save some poor soul from danger and to have them look at me with so much love in their eye knowing that if it wouldn't have been for me and the rest of my team they would not be here right now. It means responding to a car accident and working hard to ensure that everyone gets out safe and goes home to family and loved ones. It means teaching the younger ones about Fire Safety and Prevention so that they have a better understanding of what to do to prevent a fire from happening and what to do when and if a fire would happen. I love doing what I do and knowing that because of me and every other Fire/EMS personal out there the people of our communities can live safe and rest assured that we will doing everything in our power to keep them safe. I would like everyone this site to respond to this post because I want to know what doing what we do everyday means to you.

                                                Thank You
Firefighter Hicks.

Steve Hamilton, I love what you come forward and said because I'm the same way. I join when I was 16 and most likely be the youngest Fire Chief because our current one is stepping down and no one else on the department wants to take it so it was set in my lap. Be for I will see the department shut down I'll gladly take it and to the very best I can. I was Asst. Forestry Commander last year but gave that up, our division was shut down due to budget cut backs. I agree with your statement 1000%. Keep up the good work and if you every need anything just message me and let me know. I'll do my best to see that you get it.

Thank You

Lt. Shane Perterson, I agree with you 100% that's why I do what I do. I like doing all I can to insure that the people in my community can go to bed at knowing know that they are safe and that if something was to happen we are going to do all we can to get them out of harm's way and safe once again. Keep up the good work. NEVER GIVE UP!

Thank You

If you didn't start this to fight, then don't fight. I gave you an honest answer to your question. If you didn't like it, fine. But don't try to tell me about what should motivate me in my "line of work".

And what's "admin" gonna do? They might even be on my side - this time.

The "tours" I was referring to were my tours at the firehouse.

And make no mistake, you put you on a high horse, no one else.
Captain Busy, I would agree with you also, I'm not a Firefighter for the glory or fame. I am one simply because I know that it takes us and the help from others to keep everyone safe so they can live a good long life.

Thank You

Nope, I wasn't wanting to be put onto a high horse and don't thank I really am. I respect your answer and thank you for replying to my question. I can see we have a difference on option so let's just stop it there and go our own ways. Thank You once again and Keep up the good work. NEVER GIVE UP!

Thank You

That's much better. You're almost there.
I think some of us got a little out of context here. I think all Scott wants is simple answers from all levels of firefighters full time or volunteer. I don't think any one of us became firefighters/ems to be put above all others. Bottom line being a firefighter/ems professional or volunteer means serving proudly your community. Like it or not we are all brothers full time or volunteer. Anybody that became a firefighter for the recognition is in the wrong line of work. I have been around, and a part of, the fire service my entire life. I grew up in the fire house. My father was a firefighter for 30 years, and it makes me damn proud to follow in his footsteps with my older brother right beside me to. I have nothing but the utmost respect for professional fire/ems. We are all in it together and together we should all stand as one. Lets try to remember what the question is "What does it mean to you"! Not what you think of what someone else thinks or says. It's all about serving, protecting, and saving life and property safely. Please open your hearts and minds instead of your mouths and thoughts.
Ray,

Who is it that didn't remember what the question was?
I think what Scotty wants is for everyone to agree with him that being a firefighter is akin to having a religious calling, kind of about just how darn special and wonderful firemen really are. It's either that or he's having some major doubts and insecurity and needs to be reassured by the folks in here.

As for me, some days are great and some days suck pond water. If I thought I could maintain a brilliant, wonderful and sparkling outlook every damn day, I'd be the first one to agree to a commitment hearing. And I've only done if for half as long as Philly, a fraction of his experience and even less of his responsibilities.

Speaking of WestPhilly; Scotty even if you're going to become a chief, you were getting way beyond your raising giving Philly shit about his answers to you. Military or not you need to learn who to show some respect and how.
Jack,

I'm gettin' all misty over here.
you are in a much different position than others Scotty. your position, mentoring young kids to pursue a career in this trade means that you need to lead by example, all the time. tremendous load you took on brother. my hats off to you.

"it's not who wins the game that's important, but where you go afterwards for pizza..."
Philly,

Relax, the lacrimal glands can get leaky with age...I'm sure you'll be fine.

Hey! Did you notice that the post; 'about what's wrong with this picture' (the one where the Captain gave the poster a HUGE rash of shit) has disappeared?
