Manchester Firefighters (Ontario County) responded early this morning for a multi vehicle mva with injuries on the NYS Thruway. Finger Lakes Ambulance was on location with a three vehicle mva with 13 injuries. Command requested numerous ambulances from all over the County and three Mercy Flight Helicopters from Canandaigua, Batavia and Buffalo. Apparently a dump truck hit a bridge causing its load to spill which in turn caused two more vehicles to crash. A total of 17 patients were transported with two being critical. The Thruway eastbound is shut down at this time for the investigation. The cause of the accident is under investigation.

I'd also disagree. A lot of the larger departments are set up to deal with MCI's, just due to the amount of people they serve. The county department here serves over a million people, and to that effect we have an MCI bus and multiple support units to deal with them, plus we can draw from the county's own helicopter, LifeFlight, and the Maryland State Troopers for helicopter ops. It all depends on how large your department, and/or it's EMS services are, how much/hard you train for these kinds of things, resources available, and the severity of the incident.
Without going into a wordy detailed explanation online about MCI's, START Triage, etc. I have attached a generic MCI PowerPoint training presentation that is designed for you to totally rip off. It's generic intentionally so you can make your own background and put a footer with your department logo. Is does not get any simpler than this for those who know Microsoft Office.

Speaking of Microsoft Office, if you are not using a Mac computer, then misspelled words are not underlined in red, and it's really easy to not catch things... So, chill out on the spelling police comments. Reading this post is almost like watching a school of Pirañas' going into a feeding frenzy. As the discussion author pleaded, "don't shoot the messenger".

And for future reference, remembering my favorite quote, "it's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice...", I would recommend that those who have the spelling thing down, take the time to simply email the author on a private email message, taking the time to help the person out verses publicly humiliating the individual. Treat people the way you would like to be treated, with respect and dignity. To not do so is no different than holding up signs, telling someone that they are an idiot.

And no one would intentionally do this right? Just think before you type... and endeavor to be as helpful as possible while you are here on this planet, serving others and striving to always do the best you can. Or at least, that's how I see it... :D

Haha. Funny picture. Nice powerpoint too. Maybe I could use this sometime (If you don't mind).
that's why I posted it... rip it off, take all the credit, but... get the word out so we can save more lives!

I've never heard of a lock on the dump bed and I've drove everything from tandem axle dumps to tractor-trailer frameless dump trucks and they don't have a lock on them. They are PTO driven and they go up and they come down. Some do have a pony motor on the trailer to run the hydraulics or mechanicals on the really old dumps. And it would take a tornado force wind to pick up the bed. I bet nearly everything I own that he forgot to take the PTO out of gear and the bed went up. That's what usually happens. Every once in a while the PTO won't come out of gear or get hung up but it's the same ending. And believe me you will notice the bed going up unless you are A) new or B) just don't really give a crap.
