Whats one of your favorite free time activites to do at the firehouse? I know some of the paid guys don't get a lot of free time, but we all enjoy the tidbits we get when we do. For volunteers, how often does everyone just stop in the firehouse and hang out for a few hours?

We wait till after 5pm when the white shirts go home, then it's a free for all...what happens at the station stays at the station, right?
We have a game called "Cornhole", it's a combo of horse shoes and the bean bag toss. You get better at it the more drunk you are...
Lets see, the only game that seems to be had in my firehouse is when returning back from a call, who can get in their POV and leave the fastest. The brotherhood (or sisterhood) really is missing. If it doesn't benefit any one person specifically (nevermid the group) forget it. Always someones Political game to look forward to. This has evolved out of the past 8 years or so. Back when we used to pitch horse shoes, or play some basketball, or go over/clean/familiarize equipment, or wash trucks. The lost art is hanging out at the firehouse. It truely is sad, and I don't see any fix in the near future. You will also see in my profile I belong to 2 companies. I joined my second company over a year ago, and my new brother and sisterhood there is amazing. It isn't all a personal gain or nothing show. I am getting phenominal training by a great Training Officer, and being a nobody (aka non officer) doesn't bother me. This company caters to their members needs, and is a true fit to what I desire in being a firefighter. The only issue is I can't seem to just let go of my Lieutenant position and walk away from my first company. Who knows, I guess you make the bed you lay in
i know what your talking about we used to have kids of officers running around my station and the had a bad habit of opening air bottles a few times i put my s.c.b.a. on and truned the air on and either it was empty or the low air alarm was going when i took assistant chief i mad alot of people mad at me because i changed the locks on the doors and said that the kids could not be in there unless their parents kept them with them. as far as junior fire fighters go when i was one we were not allowed to have a key to the building and were only allowed in the building if brought in by a senior member. and when all senior members left we hand to leave no exceptions and at that time my brother had the captain and assistant chief positons. they told me they did not get special treatment so i was not getting any.
My favorite thing to do is bake at the station, something that everyone will enjoy, or make it at home and bring it in. It brightens everyone's day when I make them something, especially after a long day. It comes from the heart and I know that all will enjoy it.
I will say anything I've said on here to anyone of them face to face and have on several occasions,if they were not in the wrong they would'nt have anything to get twisted about. So I guess it boils down to I'd rather hurt feelings than Firefighters or their families so if you are dangerous or unsafe or just plain stupid you can expect me to say something. But we do have the option of private E-Mail to plan the attack!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good policy

There are a couple of us that hang after a event and talk about what happened and what we think could have been done different, but like you said pov race is the norm. As far as training what is that?Did you not know that nascar, going to the lake, mowing the yard or watching paint dry is more important than training.
Bad enough the training schedule is molded around the Nascar schedule. To each their own, but I am not much of a fan of 180mph left hand turns all day
I guess I should get in line because this sounds good to me also
Lieutenants, captains, Deputy/assistant chiefs, and of course the chief are all considered white shirts here
