How many of you are currently carrying large diameter hose? I am talking about 5 inch diameter or larger.
How much of it are you carrying on your units?
We have 800 feet on our Engine 3. It takes up alot of room, but is well worth it.
Also, is it set up for quick couple or are your connections threaded?
if i can remember right due to us getting more LDH i think our main fire engine has 1500 ft-2000ft sorry cant remember then our rescue engine carries the same amount of LDH.we also have different size.we have 10ft -50 ft sec on engines and our tanker.my dept has been using LDH since i started in 1997.great for moving water but hate to load the hose after we use it.o well with go come the little bad also i guess.ours has the storz ends .
We have approximately 2400 ft of 5 inch hose. 1st out unit has 1000 ft,2 others have 6oo ft &300 ft. WE love it. It is all quick connect with thread adapter connector to hydrant. Just don't load it up wrong or you will for sure lose it all.
our standard engines carry 1400' of 5 inch which includes 2 25' and a 50' "pony" lengths doesnt include the front intake I am neither assigned to Or know offthetop of my head exactly how close Our quint and our squirt got to 1400'
another Note , Standard thread is called that becasue it was standardized , Pipe thread has more threads per inchso they are finer/smaller then standard. I dont recall the Number of threads.. and as sillyas it seems there are Many areas that use its own thread... although less common these days It still happensin some areas.. an example My department had its own thread and the neighboring communities used it or adapted to it, in the 80's we began to convert to National Standard at the same time our workload decreased a bit and Mutual aid agreements allowed closing a total of 4 engines and a truck from '90=99, anyway we go west and they use national standard and head east and they use ourthread and cant afford to change over hydrants, hose, nozzles for all the 2 1/2 or3 inch hose

in both the dept. that i belong to use ldh and both carry 2000 plus feet many depts only carry 1500 in the north east there is a company that carrys over one mile of it on a special reel truck. LDH is nothing more than the water main out of the ground and on the back of the truck . all the stuff comes with the storkz connections on then ,
I added we had 4" LDH on all our engines and some on our tankers (to finish short lengths to the supply engine) on a previous post. With us purchasing a Turbo Draft unit we also just purchased 1400'(ish) of 5" LDH. Having the 5" is going to be nice for water supply, but will suck at 2am to have to pack when the fire scene is done.
