Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed the high level of incompetence shown, (especially where the young guys are concerned), in the arena of grammer? Dare I say spelling, but I am a lousy speller as well. Sister Virginia would kick my ass if she thought I was killing the English language the way these people do. As would most of the other teachers I've had, not to mention my mother! How does a person make it through life without the ability to communicate? I fear we as a society will be overrun by a culture of profesional communicators that can only say correctly, "Would you like to supersize that sir'? Am I just an idiot for noticing this or should I be happy that my son will grow up with the ability to speak and write? Or is that speek and rite?

Jim, I have to agree with you on this subject. I have witnessed a decreasing ability for today's youth to be able to spell words correctly. This, to me, is very important when it comes to the fire service. I have young firefighters on my department that can not spell when filling out run reports. if one of these individuals does dispatch duties the spelling on the finished copy is horrible and I go back and correct the spelling errors. Now I believe that the art of texting on cell phones and the decline of high school curriculum to blame for an individuals inability to spelling correctly. I do not believe there is enough emphasis on using correct English in today's society. As a writer I tend to be more critical of these issues but someone has to take the ball and run with it to address these types of discrepancies. Honestly, how hard is it to use a spell checker in Microsoft Word or Excel?
Hukt un fonix wurt fer mi!!! Sorry, I could't take it anymore. It feels good to get that off my chest.
When you take a hazardous materials class, can anyone guess what is stressed more than anything else?
If you guessed "spelling", you would be correct.
Imagine how bad the incident could be if the hazardous material was identified and spelled incorrectly.
So, do you still believe that spelling words correctly isn't important?
Let's put it into a matrix.
