L.D.H. "Love It, or Hate It"

I am wanting to start using LDH in our dept. and am wondering if I can convince the majority into changing their thought process. Let me add that we are in a rural area, and no departments that might provide aid uses LDH. Should we make the switch?

Stick with the 100 foot LDH lengths. The couplings are expensive, and you'll pay for twice as many if you go with 50 foot sections. The couplings take up a lot of space in the bed, too.

Keep a 25 foot section and a 50 foot section for piecing out lays without blocking the street, and for hydrant connections.

I found out several years ago no such thing as a stupid question. We use LDH hard suction for rural operations.

I hear ya man. Sounds like you have everything covered. What iso class are you? Do you guys use any squirrel tail suction or all ldh hard?

If your going to go with LDH I would suggest sticking with mainly 100' sections but also get a few 50' sections somewhere in the skid and a 25' section to store somewhere on the engine. Nothing is more annoying then coming up on a hydrant and you still have 75' of hose left on the truck. All of the hyrants in our district and surrounding area are just standard male to female threads but we do carry a few cam-lock fittings.

LDH is the best, we call our City department a lot for their hose reel truck, they've got 2000' of LDH on it and you just push the button to reload it. Makes it very nice.

Well in my old department we had a truck with the big reel on the back of it with 5' and it work wonders but where im at now when we go to repack we walk the lay to drain and when done flip the end so air dont get back in and with 2 ground guides we back the truck up slow to re pack this work fine

Agree 100% stick with 100' sections as time goes by and sections get damaged then you can carry smaller sections as you take the damaged pieces and turn them into smaller sections.
