Employment with a felony? (Thank you everyone who helped me, I appreciate it very much)

First I would like to thank anyone and everyone who responds to this message. When I was 19 back in 1999 I was arrested for unlawful possesion of drug paraphenalia and possesion of a controlled substance. To make a long story short I was driving with "friends" when I was pulled over for speeding, my "friends" hid their contraband in my car without my knowledge and since it was in my car and they denied owning the above mentioned articles, I was arrested and charged. It has been 10 years since then and now that I know I want to become a firefighter I am afraid that this will keep me from obtaining my dream...so I guess my question is, am I screwed? Should I just try and forget about becoming a fireman? What if I can get this felony expunged? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you and God bless

Scott, there are no holes in my story, if I had not said exactly what happened with me so long ago, I would not get the correct answers from this community. What would be the point of that? There is no lying in me, Scott. I am not embarrased by my past, I am proud of the successful person I have become and was hoping for some educated responses from everyone, which I have gotten, with the exception of you. The fact that you question my integrity is what makes you a head case. I would love to be able to put this behind us and move on...enjoy your day
And i appreciate it Scott, I do. Like I said before, I have nothing to gain by lying to a forum when all I am looking for is educated answers to my question. My question has been answered several times that I still have a chance to become a firefghter. Maybe if I lived in your town, I would not have a chance. But thankfully I do not.

p.s. your new accusations that I am now a "liar" are doing nothing for you, except make you look like something I hope you are not.
Well, as Art pointed out there ARE and people with felonies who are career firefighters. I would take the word of a stand-up Fire Cheif over the word of a washed up 40 year old who resorts to name calling when posed with an educated question. There is no need to go that route Scott, you could have simply stated that in your opinion I have no chance and left it at that, instead you refered to me as a drug user and a liar. I understand not everybody can handle the riggerous thought process which is an inteligent conversation, but you should know when it's time to call it quits.
I appreciate the banter with you Scott. I thrive on it. "and you complain I keep on posted"..???? What are you trying to say here? I do believe I stated several times that i appreciated your comments and heard them, I even went as far as telling you I have no hard feelings, when in reality I should stoop to your level. But I will not. I am a 29 year old man, not a 40 year old child. So once again, thank you for your input. It helped alot. God bless and good luck.
Hahaha Scott. Now that's funny. TCSS
Well, I wish that unfortunate night would have never happened.I am very law abiding and have never been in trouble with the law, with the exception of that night. I have paid for it dearly, trust me. One can look at it in many different ways, the felony made me realize I was hanging out with the wrong people and sent me on my way to Georgetown University to graduate with honors, but that does not take away my love for firefighting and will try to persue this. Your judgemental and constant immaturity are begining to paint a very bad picture of you which is not a good thing Scott. I wish you the best.
Scott I have been the bigger person here all day, and unfortunately, to no avail. Calling someone a drug user and a liar when you do not even know that person is beyond immature, and quite rediculous for a 40 year old, if I do say so myself. That saddest part of all this is that you do not even see my attempts to stop all this b.s. So i will try one more time: Scott, I thank you for your input very much. I also thank you for taking the time out to try and offer advice to me, i am sure your days are busy. Have a great new year and god bless.
Oh Scotty, another forum topic is fair game, and you did it to yourself, sorry to say. And for the last time, I am not complaining about your opinion, how many times do you need to read my posts that thank you for your advice? I remember at least 5. Let me ask you this, how did I lie? What did I say that was false? may I ask?
I never once said I didnt go on another topic and say something about you. I did. So where is the lie? I never called you a name on here though, being called immature is not a name. It is a very evident trait that you have. Now if I called you a liar, or an a$$hole, or a dbag...then that would be name calling...but I dont need to say what others already know for themselves. Goodbye Scott, be safe my friend.
Whoa... from last night to this afternoon, there's been a lot of bantering back and forth in regard to what you did 10 years ago... For crying out loud, you messed up and are trying to fix things. I got it and don't seen any more reasons for anyone to post more negative things. It's time to move on...

What I did note on your posts was your education as an architect. I had the opportunity years ago to work with several when I was doing plan checks as a fire inspector. One in particular, from the east coast, specialized in air handling systems and was involved with several different large scale high rise fires. Seems to me that you should be able to secure employment from a large department using your architect / engineering sheepskins...

You may have made a tremendous mistake / judge of character that could go away after your discussions with the DA, your attorney and friends you have made here on the FFN. I have found myself being as nasty as Scott in the past when dealing with some of the folks who posted nonsense on this site. Your post however was heartfelt and explained concisely what you wanted career-wise... You may not be able to work as a line firefighter because of you past but you should be able to secure employment using your educational background...

I suppose it's also appropriate to note that if anyone does do a background check, there's a good chance that they will read this blog and the posts which will do a wonderful job letting folks know that you are a good person. I can clearly see that and I know others can as well...

TCSS, Mike
TO Michael: Thank you very much sir. I am an Architect at the moment, but my heart is not in it. I hope I can become a FT Firefighter, but who knows.

To Scott: WHOAAAAAAA buddy! To much info for me
OK Scott....Cut the crap....Now you are showing the PIG and asshole that you really are....NOW you are making guys who love the job and are proud of it look bad by your acts and words here....Grow up mister......You reflect poorly on yourself and your Department....Paul
