Image to represent the fire service?
I was on line looking up some firefighting items and I came across this question and thought it was interesting. If you had to have only one image...one icon...to represent the fire service as a whole...what would it be? Dalmation? Leather helmet? American LaFrance? Brass pole? Maltese cross? Ahrens-Fox?? Others??

Here is one to think about maybe a little corny, but... what about an OPEN HAND!
An open hand to help the injured, open hand to help the sick, open hand to help those that need rescued, those that can't help themselves and most importantly an open hand to help our fellow brothers and sisters in time of need.
That is what the fire service is really about!

Are we talking about the same fire service? I mean, the one that many (And I mena many, many, many) members at all levels still find it acceptable to haze recruits? To intimidate recruits? To belittle recruits? To talk down to recruits? To use recruits as their shit kickers and cleaners?
Sounds like a great , progressive 21st century fire service to me....

Typical stupid answer. Make the international sign of firefighters a photo of a half nude female being carried out on a firefighters shoulder. THAT happens SOOOO often. Get a grip. I tell you what Lutan, since your so awesome at posting garbage images that are supposed to represent the fire service, why not make a plea to change that to the Austrailian symbol of firefighters.
You wonder why we keep having "women in the fire service" posts. It is stupid, idiotic, postings like that that show a common lack of respect for females.
No your image of the "buff firefighter" you labeled yourself (hardly) doesn't correct it. We live in the real world, not the world of stereotypes

Not trying to be a jerk but my point is the fire service as a whole is far from being "universal" and to locate a single image that represents everyone may be difficult.

If you're going to be that way, there's places in the world that don't have Fire Departments! I guess we can't do anything now.
