well, since I'm not a junior... i'm a 'probie'.
our helmets are YELLOW the same color as the regular active members but we have an orange front and the other firefighters that already went through probie training after a year got changed to black with white letters. and of course the chiefs and officers are all white.

A neighboring department has green for theirs. Ours do not have an official color yet as our program is just getting off the ground. I am pushing for the green for ours as well. Here is why...
Our Dept. (and some neighbors)
Black = Firefighter
Blue = EMS Only
Yellow = Captain
Red = Lieutenant
White = Chief or Batt Chief
Neighboring Departments we run a lot of M/A with...
Red/White Checker Board = Lieutenant
Black/White Checker Board = Captain
Blue/White = Senior Paramedic
This pretty much leaves orange and green as the only viable stock colors so they can not be confused with firefighters. We also utilize a blue stripe down the length of the helmet of a probie and a yellow stripe across the helmet of someone with no fire cert (an even lower step than just probie). Based on this concept till we get a confirmed color for helmets for cadets, and so they have something till them, we have issued black helmets (got a bunch of them) with a green stripe down the length of the helmet. Also aiding in identification is the fact that they have black Nomex and everyone else has tan PBI (switched to PBI a few years ago and still have a bunch of black in the store room that is ok so long as you are not engaging in fire supression.
We have cadets and juniors and they have stripes on their helmets.
Green and red = Cadet
Red = Junior
All helmets are black or natural with the exception off the Chief and Asst. Chief which are white.
We only have one Jr. Firefighter in my Department and that is me. My helmet is Black with Yellow and has the Leather Tag at the top. With my Departments name, my # and it says JR. FireFighter 750 Ordway Volunteer Fire Department on it with the Flag, Star of Life and Maltese Cross on it
