Medic's carrying a pistol????
I know down by Detroit there are medic's carrying pistols for protection and even bullet proof jackets, but does anyone else know of city's that are doing the same thing or even fire departments that have some sort of protection like a bullet proof jacket. this seems to be a growing concern out there for everyone, just wanted to see your view on this issue.

Wish you where there you would not have thought anything was minor . The doctors said that we , the cop and i , were lucky . When he comes out of the house that is on fire while i was doing my walk around there is no where to go your already there . When he is actively fighting you from the start and you can not get away cause he is following you there is no where to go . If i had turned to leave i would have died . I had to protect the firefighters and myself , I have this funny little quirk about going home in one piece .

It is sad that Cities and States allow areas to get so bad that EMS/Fire personnel have to carry guns and/or vest. Nobody seems to have the balls to clean up neighborhoods. We have too many soft liberals to resolve America's crime/poverty issue. Our crappy government would rather take care of a 3rd world country than it's own back yard. BUT, since this issue is a topic that needs addressed, I think as long as EMS/Fire personnel have to carry they should be well qualified to use the weapon of choice. They should be paid hazard pay as well.

Not sure in your state, but in Michigan, officer presence is the first on the use of force continuum. Meaning showing up in a marked car, getting out wearing a uniform with all the good stuff on your belt is a form of use of force.

Turn-out gear is restrictive and hot enough...we don't need the added burden of ballistic vests ....Paul

I would have been able to make the calls i missed the week after . A gun is another tool to be used in the correct way and right situations . Training and knowledge is what has saved many lives and training with and knowledge of your tools is what does it .

Thanks i am too . Been a lot of fun meeting all these nice people on here , something i would not have been able to do if he had won .

Damon, that's not necessarily true. You could possibly have been dead if the perp had gotten control of your weapon and killed you, or wounded you more seriously than your blunt trauma. You could have killed the perp, been suspended pending the outcome of a hearing, and missed all of the calls. You could have missed him and shot one of your crewmates or one of the cops. You could have shot him, had the shooting ruled unjustifiable based on the perp's level of force not being lethal, and been found guilty of manslaughter after months of being unable to work because of the criminal charges.
In other words, the number of potential bad outcomes from carrying a firearm in that situation far outweighs the potential for a good outcome.

Like i said training with your tools is essential so with the proper training , which i have , he would not have taken it . The officer that showed up was cleared in two days with a justifiable shooting because the perp was using deadly force . I could not have shot one of my own as i stated i was between them and him so that means they were behind me and i do not shoot backwards . So overall the potential good outcomes would have outweighed the bad when done right .
