Do you carry a rescue knife and if so, what brand? Gerber? Smith/Wesson?
Is it a one-handed model? Spring loaded?
What is a good blade length?

Leatherman, good general purpose and effective.
I got a spyderco years ago as a gift and I am still using it. It has cut many a seat belt and battery cable when needed. It has been used to cut into a convertible top. Cut wire around the station for self help projects. Plus it clips right into the side pocket of my turnout pants. easy to get to and I can open it with one hand.
Many responding here have indicated their brand, but what steered you to that brand? I know S and W is well branded and Gerber, but so has Case, Buck, Old Timer.
Was there a particular feature (better serrated blade), carrying case, warranty, availability that helped you make your decision?
Chief I really chose S and W due to the brand (love S and W weapons and products) and the window punch. After having it almost 8 yrs now I love it's easiness to use. The blade can be opened with one hand just as the spring loaded window punch can be activated with one hand. It comes with a carrying case with a strong plastic belt clip, the teeth are in between the blades making it easy for belts, rope, cables, etc without cutting yourself, the tip of the blade is flat which can be used as a flathead screwdriver as well. It also had a warranty of two years.I also have a SOG tool I sometimes wear and a leatherman, spydercos and a KA-BAR Night Raider for Search and Rescue in my 24 hr bag.
They cut it off one of the little green army men you get in a bag of 100. Helps keep the ETOH's in line LOL
I chose the Winchester simply because of Price, weight and balance, plus it is really sharp. Name means nothing, cost and effectiveness of the product you purchase are light years ahead in the decision making process
Gerber has a great warranty, partial serrated blade, tough thick pryable blade and has a built in tool kit, o2 wrench, seat belt cutter that works..!! window punch...and best of all has a gnurled knob that makes use with gloves a snap.....almost idiot proof....perfect for me....LOL HOPE I NEVER HAVE TO USE IT....Paul
My friend has a S&W and that is why I chose that particular brand. It had never let him down and the one I purchased has not let me down either. The SOG was a gift and I love it. I would not have it if I would have had to purchase it. The price is a little expensive but it is a remarkable tool. It has little gears built into it so you can squeeze harder and get a better bite with the pliers.
Mine was too or else I definately would not spend the $$$ on a good SOG tool.
I Carry a 3.5 inch single locking blade not sure what the brand is something cheap so if i lose it not a big deal.
Some of the best rescue knives that I had were freebies given to me at trade shows. I was at FDIC a few years ago and was given a very good knife from a vendor. The name on the knife was Eagle. I still have it and have used it numerous times. I think that the only thing I didn't cut with it was concrete. It would probably do that too, but I would get tired before the knife would wear out.
I carry an adjustable wrench, knife and a "Mr. 7 hands".. It is the most useful tool of all. I have access to 4 sizes of phillips and flat head screwdriveers in one tool. Very easy to use and works great when opening A/C units and other access panels. Try getting one, you won't be disappointed!
