Wallowa Valley Online. Fire engulfs the US Forest Service Building located at 88401 HWY 82 in Enterprise, Oregon late afternoon on Sunday July 11, 2010

Smoke could be seen just prior to towering flames coming out of the South end of the large structure. Enterprise Fire Dept aided by Joseph? & Oregon Dept of Forestry, and even a Wallowa County Road Dept water truck could be seen largely trying to contain the fire in the log structure. Initially when flames jetted out 40-50 feet on the South end flames appeared to die down albeit briefly before even more fire trucks arrived.

The large well known log building which towered above the Wallowa Valley near enterprise appears to be a complete loss. The building built in the early 1980's? not only housed the Eagle Cap Ranger District of the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest but also the well known and popular tourist attraction the Wallowa Mountain Visitors Center complete with large displays of both the history and information about the area. (Eagle Cap District Ranger is Mary DeAguero)

On the North end the building also housed the USDA offices. Included there are the Enterprise Service Center for the Natural Resources Conservation District (Tom Smith District Conservationist) the Wallowa SWCD (Soil & Water Conservation District) (Cynthia Warnock District Manager), and the US Consolidated FSA (Farm Service Agency) (Bill Williams Wallowa County Executive Director)
