Structural Fire - Whitehall, PA

Whitehall Fire Dept. was dispatched to Grandview Circle off of Grandview Drive in the Hokendauqua section of the township for a structural fire with multiple calls. Engine 3 arrives and finds a small shed fully involved in the rear yard of 3218 Grandview Circle.

Comment by Roy Walker on December 26, 2009 at 11:06pm: First , who's the guy in the FIREPROOF hoodie we could use eome of those in my department, not!!! Everyone else is correct, minimize firefighter exposure, you have no way to know what is in there and once it is established that lives are not at risk in the shed it is doubtful few sheds can be saved.
My department had a shed fire that it turned out held a glass blowing business,complete with associated compressed gases. The owner was reluctant to tell us since he was in an obvious zoning violation, to hell with the firefighter lives he risked.

Comment by Kathy Williams on December 22, 2009 at 11:41pm: Wow, good thing it didn't blow up. Sheds can hide dangers. Down the street from me, a shed went up in flame, fast. The man was working on his ATV and ignited the gasoline. In the same shed, he had stored several large tanks of propane, several large containers of gasoline, two snowmobiles, two ATV's, a riding lawn mower, a bunch of roof shingles, etc. It was lucky that the shed was far enough away from the house, it didn't ignite the house, and also that the propane etc. didn't explode. And no one told our fire team right away that all those things were in the shed!

Comment by Bill on December 22, 2009 at 10:48pm: Kathy, it was a propane tank venting, causing the blue flame. Thanks for noticing, because I don't think the firefighters noticed it right away.

Comment by Kathy Williams on December 22, 2009 at 10:17pm: I wonder what is making that blue-purple flame in front of and to the right of the two firefighters? All the other flame is orange/red/yellow but that corner is different?
