CITY OF SHAMOKIN (NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY), PA: Shamokin Fire Department, Coal Township-Maine Engine 111, and AREA EMS were dispatched to a working house fire at 717 North Shamokin Street after 22:00 hours. First units on scene found the first floor well involved with fire in the 2 1/2 story home. The fire was quickly spread to the second floor and attic. The fire then jump to the second floor of the vacant home next door. Shamokin Command then ordered the second alarm to the scene for assistance. The third alarm was dispatched to cover the empty City fire stations. The fire then extended into the attic and roof of the next door apartment building. The third alarm was then ordered to the scene for additional manpower. The stubborn fire continued to burn in the walls and roof for over two hours. Extensive over haul was needed until the fire was placed under control after 01:00 hours.
