"RYAN TOWNSHIP (SCHUYLKILL COUNTY), PA: On September 9th after 14:00 hours, the Ryan Township, Delano Township, Mahanoy City Citizens Fire Companies and Ryan Township EMS were dispatched to mile marker 129 southbound on Interstate 81 for a tractor trailer fire. The dispatcher reported he received multiple phone calls of a tractor trailer on the side of the highway on fire.
Citizens Engine 454 arrived on location first and found the tractor fully involved with fire and was spreading to the trailer. Pennsylvania State Police shut down the highway and prevented the traffic from driving past the blazing inferno. A tanker task force was then dispatched to the scene for additional water to assist with extinguished. Engine 454 crew advanced a foam hose line and knocked down the large flames coming from the tractor.
Ryan Township Tanker 26-30 arrived and supplied Engine 454 with its tank water. Ryan Township Engine 26-10 arrived next with Chief 26 who then took command of the incident. A number of mutual aid tankers also responded and supplied their water to Engine 454 to assist with the overhaul operations. The fire was knocked down in less of a half hour but the roadway remained closed until all fire units cleared the scene.
