Working structure fire in a 3-story apartment building. Heavy fire showing from window on side A, division 1. Ladder 51 and Engine 11 arrived on scene first, quick knockdown by the crew from 51 with a 1-3/4" handline in the front door. Primary search and check for extension performed by crews from 11 and 62 on the second and third floors, nothing found.
Unfortunately there was a resident in the apartment where the fire started, and despite a quick response from the department, the fire had already taken the residents life.
Building was an older brick building. The fire was venting out the first floor window on arrival, up to the second floor. But the combination of the brick construction, and the new windows on the second floor, kept the fire from extending before it was knocked down.
