Massachusetts Firefighters Injured in 3-Alarm Fire

Satellite NewsService. Sandwich - Two Sandwich firefighters were injured earlier this afternoon while fighting a house fire in the Ridge Club, a private golf community.

Sandwich Fire Chief George Russell confirmed that two of his firefighters had been taken from the scene in ambulances, but declined to release their names or describe their conditions.

The fire on Open Trail Road has gone to three alarms. Flames are still showing t as firefighters from Sandwich, Mashpee and Bourne continue to pour water through gaping holes in the roof of the two-story home.

According to a neighbor, members of the Sullivan family, owners of the house, left home earlier today with plans to go boating. A short while later neighbors noticed smoke coming from the back of the yard and used a garden hose to put out a fire in a grill. Russell could not say if the grill fire is connected to the house fire.

Fire departments from Falmouth, Plymouth and Wareham are providing mutual aid for the departments at the scene of the fire.

Based on emergency broadcast and on-scene reports, one firefighter was transported to Cape Cod Hospital with priority 2 injuries -considered serious but non-life-threatening and the other with a broken ankle.
