One of the members of the responding department works with me on my VFD. This is a smaller career department with probably 10-12 members on shift.

This fire had been burning for about an hour before the department was called. The occupants, most of whom had been drinking, thought they had put it out and never called the fire department until the house started filling with smoke awhile after they had tried to extinguish it. The fire had gotten into the void space between the 1st floor ceiling and the floor of floor 2. When the department opened it up, a backdraft occurred.

One member was sent down the stairs. the captain, who was on the porch, went over the railing to the ground. The interior crew was covered in debris from the ceiling collapse but made it out. In total 5 members were transported but all were released within a few hours.
