MABAS21 - Well where to start? Gary laid off 34 Firefighters at the beginning of the year after running a record number of fire calls in 2010 and what happens??? On 01-22-11 in the early morning hours Gary got slammed with 5-6 working fires in 3 hours. I had no clue this was happening until Lake Station FD got dispatched to Gary Station 7 for coverage, out of curiosity I turn Gary on to hear they have at least one fully involved structure with extension. As I listen to the chaos over the radio they tone out a "rekindle" and explosion at 24th and Wisconsin. I could not resist going to this! From a mile there was a clear header in the night sky, mind you it was snowing also. On arrival a fully involved frame house was found with a fireball blowing out the side of the house from the gas meter. It took an engine company over 15 minutes to get on scene to fight the fire because the entire fire department along with several mutual aid companies were working their asses off at 4 other fires burning at the same time. Hey Rudy, I think we have a problem.... FIX IT!!!!!
